Carlos Teixeira is a Portuguese flautist, music educator, and academic leader based in the United Arab Emirates. Born in Porto, Portugal, he began his musical studies at the age of nine, initially studying recorder and later guitar, before discovering his passion for the flute in his late teens. Determined to pursue a professional career despite his relatively late start, he dedicated himself intensively to the instrument while continuing his academic studies.
At the age of 22, Carlos won his first professional audition for the position of Principal Flute with the Portuguese Army Band, where he served for five years. Alongside his professional commitments, he completed his Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance through the University of Évora, Portugal, and the Lemmensinstituut in Belgium. During this period, he achieved the remarkable milestone of making 124 public performances and professional appearances in a single year.
Carlos subsequently continued his studies at the Maastricht Academy of Music in the Netherlands, where he obtained his Master’s degree in Music Performance under the guidance of Philippe Benoit. His artistic development has also been enriched through masterclasses and workshops with internationally renowned flautists, including Sir James Galway and Peter-Lukas Graf.
With over two decades of professional experience, Carlos has developed an international career spanning Europe, South America, and the Middle East, combining performance with a strong commitment to music education. He currently serves as Head of Music at the German International School Dubai and as a Flute Tutor at the University of the Arts Sharjah, where he works with aspiring musicians in a higher-education setting.
Carlos continues to maintain an active performance career, appearing as a soloist and chamber musician and collaborating with the UAE National Orchestra. His career reflects a continued commitment to artistic excellence, music education, and the development of the next generation of musicians.
